A chicken and a millipede walking along a road.

Hennetjie en Duisendpoot is vriende. Maar hulle kompeteer altyd teen mekaar. Op ‘n dag besluit hulle om sokker te speel om te bepaal wie die beste speler is.

Chicken and Millipede were friends. But they were always competing with each other. One day they decided to play football to see who the best player was.

Hulle het sokkerveld toe geloop en begin hulle wedstryd. Hennetjie was vinnig, maar Duisendpoot was vinniger. Hennetjie skop ver, maar Duisendpoot skop verder. Hennetjie het knorrig begin raak.

They went to the football field and started their game. Chicken was fast, but Millipede was faster. Chicken kicked far, but Millipede kicked further. Chicken started to feel grumpy.

Hulle het besluit om doelskoppe die volgende te doen. Duisendpoot was heel eerste die doelwagter. Hennetjie het net een doel geskop. Daarna is dit Hennetjie se beurt om die doelpale te verdedig.

They decided to play a penalty shoot-out. First Millipede was goal keeper. Chicken scored only one goal. Then it was the chicken’s turn to defend the goal.

Duisendpoot skop die bal en teken een punt aan. Duisendpoot het die bal gedribbel en teken nog ‘n doel aan. Duisendpoot het ‘n kopbal gespeel en teken nog ‘n doel aan. Duisendpoot het altesaam vyf doele aangeteken.

Millipede kicked the ball and scored. Millipede dribbled the ball and scored. Millipede headed the ball and scored. Millipede scored five goals.

Hennetjie was woedend dat sy verloor het. Sy was ‘n slegte verloorder. Duisendpoot het begin lag omdat sy vriendin so ‘n groot bohaai opskop.

Chicken was furious that she lost. She was a very bad loser. Millipede started laughing because his friend was making such a fuss.

Hennetjie was so kwaad dat sy besluit het om haar bek groot oop te maak en Duisendpoot in te sluk.

Chicken was so angry that she opened her beak wide and swallowed the millipede.

Terwyl Hennetjie rustig huis toe loop, loop hy vir Mamma Duisendpoot raak. Mamma Duisendpoot vra bekommerd: ” Het jy my kind gesien?” Hennetjie het nie ‘n antwoord gehad nie. Mamma Duisendpoot was baie bekommerd.

As Chicken was walking home, she met Mother Millipede. Mother Millipede asked, “Have you seen my child?” Chicken didn’t say anything. Mother Millipede was worried.

Net toe Hennetjie begin loop hoor Mamma Duisendpoot ‘n klein stemmetjie. “Help my Mamma!” skree die stem. Mamma Duisendpoot kyk soekend rond en luister versigtig. Die stem het vanuit Hennetjie se maag gekom.

Then Mother Millipede heard a tiny voice. “Help me mom!” cried the voice. Mother Millipede looked around and listened carefully. The voice came from inside the chicken.

Mamma Duisendpoot skree: ” Gebruik jou unieke kragte, my kind!” Duisendpote kan ‘n slegte reuk en aaklige smaak afgee. Hennetjie begin siek voel.

Mother Millipede shouted, “Use your special power my child!” Millipedes can make a bad smell and a terrible taste. Chicken began to feel ill.

Hennetjie breek ‘n wind op. Sy het gesluk en gee ‘n spoeg. Toe nies sy en begin hoes en hoes. Duisendpoot proe verskriklik sleg.

Chicken burped. Then she swallowed and spat. Then she sneezed and coughed. And coughed. The millipede was disgusting!

Hennetjie hoes en proes totdat die duisendpoot weer sy verskyning maak vanuit Hennetjie se maag. Mamma en Duisendpoot het vinnig teen ‘n boomstam opgeklim om te gaan wegkruip.

Chicken coughed until she coughed out the millipede that was in her stomach. Mother Millipede and her child crawled up a tree to hide.

Van daardie dag af, is hoenders en duisendpote vyande.

From that time, chickens and millipedes were enemies.
