Diyuwa dimweya, nawe ghakashimbire mbuyo dhodhingi.

One day, mama got a lot of fruit.

” Ruvedhe munye shomudhitupe edhi mbuyo?” Twepurire. “Ñanyi tudhiwane runguro,” ghahuthire nawe.

“When can we have some fruit?” we ask. “We will have the fruit tonight,” says mama.

Minange ghomukafumughana Rahim ne kahoma. Ghanayereka mbuyo dhodhiheya. Ghanadi mbuyo dhodhingi.

My brother Rahim is greedy. He tastes all the fruit. He eats a lot of it.

“Mumone eyi ghanatendi Rahim!” Ghakugherere minange ghomukafumughana. “Rahim ne ghakununeka nodihuna,” Nahutha.

“Look at what Rahim did!” shouts my little brother. “Rahim is naughty and selfish,” I say.

Nawe ghanatokota naRahim.

Mother is angry with Rahim.

Natwe karo tunatokota naRahim. Ene Rahim mbadi ghanakuromba mathiyerero.

We are also angry with Rahim. But Rahim is not sorry.

” Mbadi shomumupe mahumbithero Rahim ndi?” Ghepurire minange ghomukafumughana.

“Aren’t you going to punish Rahim?” asks little brother.

“Rahim, soon you will be sorry,” warns mama.


An ill-looking boy.

Rahim ghanatanga kuyuva tjitju.

Rahim starts to feel sick.

“Tjitju mudipumba dyange,” ghanahohota Rahim.

“My tummy is so sore,” whispers Rahim.

Nawe ghayidimukire eshi eyi ñanyi yihokoke. Mbuyo kunakumuhumbitha Rahim.

Mama knew this would happen. The fruit is punishing Rahim!

Munyima Rahim gharombire mathiyerero kwetu twaheya. “Mbadi mbonikara kahoma karo,” dyoghanakukuruperitha. Twaheya tunayitawa eyi ghanakughamba.

Later, Rahim says sorry to us. “I will never be so greedy again,” he promises. And we all believe him.
